Glendale Kitchen Lighting
Layered lighting and the new circuits a remodeled kitchen needs, done by licensed electricians.
Older kitchens often rely on one fluorescent box in the middle of the ceiling. It lights the floor and leaves the counters in your own shadow.
A good kitchen lighting plan uses layers: recessed lights for general light, under-cabinet strips for the counters and pendants over the island. Each layer gets its own switch or dimmer.
The City of Glendale's building permit Q&A says new electrical circuits and outlets, drain pipes and gas pipes all need a permit. A kitchen that adds an island circuit, moves the sink or runs gas to a new range crosses that line. When yours does, we pull the permit and call for each inspection.

Slim LED fixtures spaced to light the counters, not just the floor.

LED strips that put light right where you chop.

Fixtures over the island, hung at a height that keeps sightlines open.

New breakers for added circuits, checked before the plan is final.
| Work | Permit per the City's Q&A? |
|---|---|
| New circuits for appliances or an island | Yes |
| New outlets | Yes |
| Fixing a loose receptacle | No |
| Gas line for a range | Yes |
The City also says work can't continue until a city inspector approves it, and a permit expires if work doesn't start within 180 days of issue. We submit once the drawings and cabinet order are final, so the clock and the inspections line up with the build.
It depends on the ceiling height and layout. We space them over the counters and walkways on the lighting plan before any holes are cut.
Yes. The City of Glendale's permit Q&A says new circuits and outlets need a permit, because wire size and connections matter.
Yes. Recessed and under-cabinet lighting can be added on their own, with drywall patching and paint afterward.
We check the panel during the estimate. If it's short on space or capacity, we include the upgrade in the plan.
